Thought Experiment (Preamble)

Thought Experiment (Preamble)

Imagine if the MS vendors announced new MS instruments that quantified up to ~2000% more peptides.

Futher, these ~2000% additional quantified peptides exclusively contained the peptides with unpredicted sequences (e.g., splice variants, SNPs, unusual proteolytic cleavages etc.) and unexpected PTMs (e.g., hundreds of possible PTMs, such as unusual glycosolations, phosphorylations, acetylations, methylations, citrulinations, etc.).

Further, there were now small add-on devices that instantly upgraded all your old MSs to these new MSs.

Finally, these devices could "somehow magically" quantify up to ~2000% more peptides from years' worth of previously generated DIA-MS data.

That is, there is no need to redo experiments, re-acquire limited precious samples, find lab space, hire additional mass spectrometrists, or perform data analysis.

How valuable would these imaginary add-on devices be?

What GoldenHaystack Lab Provides

What GoldenHaystack Lab Provides

We provide this last above option, except instead of a physical — and imaginary — set of devices, we open up our lab — i.e., the core GoldenHaystack algorithm (preprint), our engineers, our computational infrastructure etc. — in order to provide the results outlined in the above thought experiment. Please see "Easy Workflow."

Estimating Lifetime Value

Estimating Lifetime Value

We estimate the lifetime value of discovering a parsimonious panel that separates study conditions as follows:

First, we conservatively assume that not every project's DIA-MS dataset will have parsimonious panels that separate study conditions (please see "VI. Limitations" in preprint). But if even only a small percentage of projects do, the potential >20 year total value is, depending on the study, tens of millions to tens of billions USD…per successful project.

Importance of Speed

Importance of Speed

Because speed of discovery is critical for patent priority rules — there is zero benefit to effectively similar patents submitted even one minute after the original — we are looking for collaborators who share our "sense of urgency." For interactive discussions, please book a web call.
